Tips - processes that will help you accomplish tasks in your Linux Mint system...

Backup your system to external drive with Grsync program

Whether using USB flash drive or external USB hard drive (recommended for larger backup size).

  1. Use the program Gparted to format the drive as Ext4 format.
  2. To write to this drive, or create new folders on the drive:
    1. In the terminal window type: sudo nemo
    2. Select the drive you formated
    3. Right-click the drive and select "permissions"
    4. Change the Owner to your system owner name
    5. Change the permissions to "read/write"
    6. Now create any new folders as needed on the drive for your use (ie. backup, data, etc)
  3. Now to backup to the drive with Grsync program...
    1. Start the Grsync program
    2. Select the folder or location on the external drive to backup into
    3. Set the backup details in the Grsync program you wish to use
    4. In the Grsync program menu select "File" then when ready "Execute"
